Pharmacology

Candiderm cream offers three agents with distinct pharmacological effects and is suitable for the treatment of inflammatory and allergic dermatoses threatened or complicated by bacterial and/or fungi infections.

Beclomethasone dipropionate exerts powerful anti-inflammatory pruritic and anti-allergic properties.

Gentamicin sulphate offers a broad spectrum anti bacterial activity against most skin pathogens.

Clotrimazole possesses a broad spectrum anti fungal activity covering a wide range of fungal organisms implicated in skin infections. It also covers some bacterial species.

Indications

Candiderm cream is indicated for a wide variety of corticosteroid responsive dermatoses complicated by bacterial and/or fungal infections e.g. Seborrhoeic eczema, contact dermatitis, Nummular Dermatitis, Atopic Dematitis, Neurodermatitis, Anogenital Dermatitis.

Bacterial or fungal infections associated with inflammation e.g. Impetigo, Furunculosis, Folliculitis, Sycosis Barbae, Intertrigo. Candiderm cream has a wide spectrum of activity and can be used with advantage when specific diagnosis of the source of infection is not possible.

Contra-indications

Tuberculosis of the skin, chicken pox, herpes simplex, measles, vaccinia, syphilitic skin lesions and in patients with hypersensitivity to Clotrimazole, Beclomethasone, Gentamicin or any of the components of the formulation.

Precautions/Warnings

Pregnancy: Pregnancy category B. Not to be used in large amounts or for prolonged periods during pregnancy.

Interactions

No information is available on drug interactions with topical Clotrimazole/Gentamicin/Beclometasone combination. As systemic absorption is minimal, drug interactions are unlikely.

Adverse Effects

Beclometasone burning, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis and acneform eruptions.

Use of occlusive dressing further increases the side effects and causes maceration, skin atrophy, striae and miliaria.

Gentamicin may produce transient irritation that usually does not require discontinuation of treatment.

Topical Clotrimazole can cause erythema, stinging, blistering, peeling, edema, pruritus, urticaria and general irritation of the skin.

Dosage & Administration

A thin layer of Candiderm cream should beapplied to cover completely the affected area. The frequency of application is
two to three times daily. For some patients, adequate maintenance therapy may
be achieved with less frequent application.
