Gebexime belongs to group of Cephalosporin, which is effective against gram - positive and gram-negative organisms. Gebexime act by inhibiting cell wall synthesis and bactericidal. It also activates autolytic enzymes which are in cell wall leading to bacterial death of bacteria.

Gebexime after administration is widely distributed throughout body fluids with onset of action is between 30 - 60 minutes and duration of actions is for 8 - 12 hours.

Gebexime excreted by the kidneys. Hence dosage for patients with renal disease should be altered. Also Gebexime should be administered with great caution to patients who have immediate type of hypersensitivity reaction to Penicillin.


Gebexime indicated in respiratory tract, genito-urinary tract, skin and soft tissue infections, gonorrhoea, acute gonococcal urethritis and cervicits, meningitis, prophylaxis against infections in surgical procedures.


Gebexime contraindicated in individuals with known history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporin’s.


Gebexime may cause pseudo-membranous colitis in patients sensitive to Penicillin.

Use with caution in pregnant women, lactating mothers and elders.


Synergy with amino-glycosides.

Adverse Effects

Commonly found adverse effect with Gebexime are skin rash, drug fever, transient increases of hepatic enzymes.

Dosage & Administration

For IM and IV use only.

Suggested direction for 1M use:

Dissolve the content of vial in 3.0 mL of Sterile Water for injection USP.

Suggested direction for IV use:

Dissolve the content of vial in 6.0 mL of Sterile Water for injection USP.

The reconstituted solution should be used immediately


750 mg IM or IV.

Infants and Children:

30 to 100 mg/kg/day given as three or four divided doses. A dose of 60 mg/kg/day will be appropriate for most infections.

Or as directed by the Physician.

Storage/Handling Recommendations

Store in a cool, dry place below 25oC.

Protect from light.

Do not freeze.

Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
