Pharmacology

Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body. Calcium plays a very important role in the body. Calcium is involved in muscle contraction, neurons activity and blood coagulation. The Calcium, Vitamins  D3 and K combination is essential for healthy bones, muscles and nerves. Vitamins D3 and K are involved in complex pathways that make calcium function optimally.

• From the food to the blood: Dietary calcium is absorbed by a specific transporter which is stimulated by Vitamin D3. Also, Vitamin D3 helps to balance Calcium and phosphate in the blood as required for bone formation.

• Vitamin D3 aids in the maintenance of calcium homeostasis (dynamic control of circulating Ca levels by regulating assimilation / use / storage / mobilization). It regulates calcium uptake into the bones. Vitamin D acts on the intestinal calcium transporter to stimulate calcium absorption and on the parathyroid gland and on the kidneys to regulate circulating calcium levels.

• From the blood to the bone: Calcium is brought into the bone matrix by proteins like Osteocalcin. This is only possible if osteocalcin has been activated through post translational carboxylation, a reaction dependent on Vitamin K. Adequate amounts of vitamin K2 are needed in order to activate osteocalcin – the protein circulating in the blood, which is responsible for binding calcium ions to the matrix of bone, making bones stronger.

• The Calcium, Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K present in this Doppelherz® aktiv tablets constitute the ideal combination to reach recommended daily intake of Calcium and ensure an optimal Calcium integration into the bones.
