Pharmacology

Doppelherz® aktiv Magnesium+Calcium+D3 supports the body in times of physical and mental stress, to maintain the heart, bones and muscles for optimum functionality. Essential substances like Magnesium cannot be synthesized by the body and storage is limited. Nowadays, foods are mainly processed resulting in a lower intake of essential minerals like magnesium. Intake of laxatives, regular alcohol consumption, Long storage and cooking of food can also lower mineral content in the body.

• Magnesium is essential for the heart muscle, it acts as muscle relaxant and therefore causes vasorelaxation, which lowers blood pressure. Magnesium supplies energy to cells, it is an important cofactor involved in the metabolism of carbohydrate, fat and protein for energy production. Also, Magnesium increases sensitivity of body cells towards insulin.

• Calcium for building and maintaining the bone, it transfers stimuli between nerves and cells and it is involved in the contraction of muscles and clotting of blood. 99% of the total body calcium is found in the bones.

• Vitamin D3 aids in the maintenance of calcium homeostasis (dynamic control of circulating Ca levels by regulating assimilation / use / storage / mobilization). It regulates calcium uptake into the bones. Vitamin D acts on the intestinal calcium transporter to stimulate calcium absorption and on the parathyroid gland and on the kidneys to regulate circulating calcium levels.

Pharmacokinetics:

Calcium absorption is under hormonal control. Absorption rates, normally between 30 and 40%, decrease with increasing doses. Renal filtration and reabsorption at a rate of 98% accounts for the maintenance of body calcium levels. Calcium and magnesium influence each other’s absorption. A 2:1 ratio of calcium to magnesium ensures maximal calcium absorption.

Magnesium is absorbed in the small intestine through specific transporters. Renal filtration and reabsorption at a rate of about 95% accounts for the maintenance of body magnesium levels. Vitamin D3 is almost completely absorbed together with other lipids and bile. It is stored in fat tissues and therefore has a long half life within the organism. Vitamin D3 and its metabolites are excreted following bile enterohepatic circulation.
